Meet The Band Director


Heather Trutor grew up in Dummerston, VT and holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of Vermont (2005), and a Master of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music (2014). She studied clarinet with Steve Klimowski and Bonnie Campbell. 

She has performed with many groups including the Vermont Symphonic Winds, the Vermont Wind Ensemble, the Champlain Philharmonic Orchestra, the Green Mountain Mahler Festival, and numerous area pit orchestras.  She has been a sought after guest conductor for various high school and middle school festivals, as well as a clinician at conferences.  
Mrs. Trutor received the Outstanding New Music Educator award from the VMEA in 2011/2012. She is an adjudicator for the Vermont All State Music Festival clarinet audition room, and is proud to serve as Immediate Past-President of the Vermont Music Educators Association.

Before teaching at Essex High School, Mrs. Trutor taught for five years at Lamoille Union High School and Middle Schools. Prior to that she worked at Hunt Middle School in Burlington, VT for three years. 2020/2021 will be her fourteenth year working in public education and sixth year at EHS.


When she is not teaching, Mrs. Trutor loves to be with her daughter Eleanor, go antiquing, experience live music from various genres, ride her bicycle, watch WWE, and be a good cat-mom to Nico the Cat.
