Meet The Band Director
HEATHER TRUTOR
Heather Trutor grew up in Dummerston, VT and holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from the University of Vermont (2005), and a Master of Music Education from VanderCook College of Music (2014). She studied clarinet performance with Steve Klimowski and Bonnie Campbell.
Heather has performed with ensembles including the Vermont Symphonic Winds, the Vermont Wind Ensemble, the Champlain Philharmonic Orchestra, the Green Mountain Mahler Festival, as well as numerous area pit orchestras. She has been a sought after guest conductor for various high school and middle school festivals, as well as a clinician at conferences. Heather received the Outstanding New Music Educator award from the VMEA in 2011/2012. She is proud to have served the students and educators of Vermont as President-Elect, President and Past-President of the Vermont Music Educators Association from 2015-2021. She currently serves on the VMEA Board as their Instrumental Chair.
Before teaching at Essex High School, Mrs. Trutor taught for five years at Lamoille Union High School and Middle Schools. Prior to that she worked at Hunt Middle School in Burlington, VT for three years. 2024/25 will be her eighteenth year working in public education and tenth year at EHS.
When she is not spending time with awesome high school students, Heather loves to be with her husband and daughter, go antiquing for milk glass, experience live music from various genres, play her clarinet, and work in her perennial gardens.
